WOODSTOCK – McHenry County residents can give
back to their community in a fun way by participating in this year’s Bowl for
The annual bowling fundraiser, hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters
of McHenry County, will kick off in February at participating locations. All
the proceeds from this fundraiser will go back to the community to support
local children in need.
“This is our largest fundraiser of the year,” event coordinator
Linda Coonen said. “And it takes place nationally, too, helping raise more than
$20 million for children across the nation.”
Executive Director Leslie Coen said her local chapter typically
raises about $75,000 each year for McHenry County children.
“This year’s goal is $90,000,” Coen said.
Teams who register will receive a free game of bowling, free shoe
and ball rental, Bowl for Kids’ Sake T-shirts and the opportunity to win door
prizes. Coen said several local companies also are sponsoring this event by
donating money and getting teams together to bowl.
“These corporations are using Bowl for Kids’ Sake as a
family-friendly mixer and team-building activity for their staff, which is
really cool,” Coen said.
Local bowling events are scheduled for Feb. 18 and 19 at Kingston
Lanes, 1330 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock; Feb. 25 at Glo-Bowl Fun Center, 101
Franks Road, Marengo; Feb. 26 at Palace Bowl, 3400 N. Richmond
Road, Johnsburg; and
March 4 and 5 at 3-D Bowl at 4018 W. Roberts Road, Island Lake.
“We wanted to spread out and be really accessible for people in
the area,” Coonen said. “This gives people a chance to have fun and give back
in the middle of winter when not much else is going on.”
