Big Brothers Big Sisters to Form Leadership Board of Young Professionals

Seeking Passionate Individuals Who Like to Socialize and Network with Purpose

MCHENRY, ILLINOIS, February 06, 2012 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County is excited to announce that they are in the beginning stages of forming a Leadership Board of young professionals. The Leadership Board will consist of dedicated young men and women throughout McHenry County who volunteer their time, talents, and energy to support Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs. Members will plan and host a signature event to raise funds to grow the organization, recruit future mentors, partners, and board members, and generate public awareness in a fun and social environment.

The Leadership Board will complement the efforts of the Executive Board and staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County while developing future leaders for the organization and the community. “I think this is a very exciting opportunity and a wonderful way for emerging young professionals to get further involved in the community, network, and most importantly help us serve the kids of McHenry County” says Americorps VISTA member Amy Carden.

Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters are in single-parent and low-income families or households where a parent is incarcerated. As McHenry County’s only donor and volunteer supported mentoring agency, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”). Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a system of ongoing evaluation and support which is proven by independent studies to help families by improving the odds that “Littles” will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others. In 2011, 566 children in McHenry County reaped the benefits of a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County is seeking passionate individuals committed to making a difference in their community who like to socialize and network with a purpose. Upcoming informational and collaborative meetings are being planned and as the Leadership Board develops there will be multiple ways those interested can become involved.
