Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do – not to mention, one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your Little can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.

Play sports together. Go on a hike. Read books. Eat a pizza with extra anchovies. Or just give some advice and inspiration. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy them even more with your Little—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.

ARE YOU READY TO BE A BIG?

Ready to be a Big Brother or Big Sister? Just fill out our simple online application. After you complete it, a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member will contact you shortly. You’ll have to:

  • provide references
  • participate in an in-person interview at your home
  • go through an extensive background check

Each step of the volunteer selection process is to ensure the safety of each Little in our program.

Get Started

Step 1

TALK TO BBBS STAFF

Let our staff know you are interested by submitting an online application or call the office for information. Begin by entering your zip code below and then fill out the form.



Step 2

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

Fill out the volunteer application forms. You will need to provide your driver’s license, automobile insurance and the names and phone numbers of four references.


Step 3

FINGER PRINTING

Make an appointment at one of the police departments that we are contracted with to get fingerprinted at no cost to you.


Step 4

INTERVIEW A BBBS

Staff member will interview you at your home to learn more about you and your interests to better match you with a Little. Staff will also walk around your home for a home assessment.


Step 5

TRAINING

You must attend a group training session at the BBBS office to learn about policies/procedures, requirements/responsibilities, developing and maintaining a successful relationship and child abuse/neglect education.

Step 6

SCREENING COMMITTEE

Once all of the background forms are complete and the above steps are completed, a screening committee will review all of your information you provided and that was gathered during the enrollment process, for final acceptance or non-acceptance.

Step 7

NOTIFICATION

You will be notified via phone and letter of acceptance or non-acceptance
